This book is based on a PhD thesis that the author conducted at Oxford University and concerned with an ever more interesting theme in port economics: the competition among adjacent ports and their relative competitiveness. Port studies have been a topic for transport geographers and transport economists. Their respective approaches and/or perspectives to the ports are, however, rather segregated, having spoken their discipline-based languages. Interestingly, the author of this book has a unique strength in his academic background of transport geography and transport economics. This book is an outcome from such a beautifully combined knowledge on the two related disciplines.
