WELCOME TO Industry Insights, Marine Log's quick snapshot of current trends in the global marine marketplace. This month, in anticipation of our feature article on "Modernizing the Fishing Fleet" in our October 2018 issue, we highlight the current composition of the U.S. North Pacific fishing fleet. Much of the information is from Modernization of the North Pacific Fishing Fleet: Economic Opportunity Analysis prepared for the Port of Seattle and the Washington Maritime Federation and prepared by the McDowell Group. Given the cost of building new and the slump in the offshore oil and gas market, perhaps we might see some OSVs converted for the fishing market.
