LFPL Trains Tech Talent

Kentucky's Louisville Free Public Library (LFPL) is teaming with government agencies, nonprofits, and busi- nesses in its community to teach people to develop websites and program soft- ware-and, once those skills are honed, getting them placed in tech jobs around the region. Like many cities today, Louisville hosts a thriving technology sector, but companies have had some trouble addressing shortages of qualified software developers, a perennial problem in the industry. In fall 2013, former LFPL director (and 2010 LJ Librarian of the Year) Craig Buthod and LFPL director of communication and outreach Julie Scoskie met with Michael Gritton, executive director of the workforce investment nonprofit KentuckianaWorks.
