Open access practices: roadmap to research paper publications in academic institutions

Open access practices (OAPs) are innovations in which information resources of research publications, theses and dissertations and alike are made available and accessible in the institutional repository/databases in academic institutions. Studies by Nyambi and Maynard (2012) refer to when OAPs was established in Africa. This was in connection to having their research work in openness, thus resulting to the originality of the African Journal OnLine (AJOL) in 1998. Because of the ongoing voluminous research work in Africa, the AJOL and other platforms led to the establishment of the Africa Digital Library in 1999.
