摘要

Members of the Scottish Basketmakers Circle questioned their ideas and extended the use of materials and basketry techniques to produce new exciting pieces for this exhibition. Working with the oldest skills their craftsmanship produced wonderful art forms from natural willow, birch, dogwood, sedges, rushes, heather root, grasses, fibres, mussel shells and pearls to copper wire, sea-worn synthetic plastics and rope materials. These have been prepared and the works constructed, stripped, and in some cases crushed in imaginary ways to make the audience think about the beauty of the natural world and how re-use of long lasting man-made materials can also have a beauty of its own. Influenced by their working environments the members have produced structures, skeletal objects, sculptures, panels, wall hangings and art forms.
