This is a very striking book which has an unusual binding - basically a paperback with thick board added to the front and back. The author examines the use of knit and other craft-inspired fabrics in the fashion industry today by showcasing 40 designers around the world and discovering how design houses such as Missoni and Sonia Rykiel use hand and machine knitting techniques in new and innovative ways to create fashion-forward garments and accessories. The author has interviewed each of the designers and posed the same set of questions to each on career progression, inspiration, techniques used and what their future vision is for the knitwear industry, to gain an understanding of their work. The images accompanying each section are beautifully presented to show many aspects of the designer's thought process and the progress of a given design; they include fashion sketches, studio photographs and close-ups of the fabrics.
