This paper considers a two-unit basic model with a repairman taking multiple vacations. By using the supplementary variable method and the vector Markov process theory, we obtain the Laplace transforms of the state probabilities of the system. Furthermore, we derive some important reliability indices of the system, such as the steady-state availability, the steady-state failure frequency, the mean time to the first failure (MTTFF), the steady-state probability that the failed system is waiting for repair and the steady-state probabilities that the repairman is on vacation and busy. Finally, a special case shows that the results presented by this paper are general than those in the two-unit basic model without vacation.
