In this paper, we propose a multi-hop routing algorithm LEACH-GA (LEACH-Genetic Algorithm) to improve the cluster heads single-hop system in the LEACH routing protocol of heterogeneous wireless sensor network. In this protocol, the cluster heads provide a shortest path link with SINK. The cluster heads who are far away from SINK communicate with SINK through the transit cluster heads. While, in fact, those who are near SINK can communicate with it directly. From this point, the LEACH algorithm can be improved to be an algorithm with SINK-centered multi-hop tree cluster link. Simulation of LEACH algorithm and LEACH-GA indicate that, compared with LEACH algorithm, LEACH-GA reduces the energy consumption of the cluster heads and prolongs the lifetime of the network.
