A Novel Attitude and Heading Reference Systems Based on Bionic Polarization Sensors

In aeronautic and astronautic area, Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) is commonly used to accommodate the attitude of the aircrafts. But the motion acceleration of the aircraft and the interferential magnetic field influence the attitude measured by commonly-used AHRS. This paper presents a novel AHRS based on double polarization sensors and a MEMS Gyro. Linear Kalman filter state model was presented by the Psi-angle propagation equation. Solar vector was used in the observation model of the proposed Kalman filter, and its difference between the values of the theoretical computation and practical detection was applied as observed variable. Navigation performance of the novel AHRS was evaluated and compared with the traditional one through static and dynamic attitude measuring experiments. The results show that the AHRS presented in this paper can effectively improve the measurement accuracy. This new AHRS can maintain an accurate estimation of attitude, and is helpful for precise navigation of the aircraft with long time flight and high-dynamic motion.
