In the present study, the use of ultrasonic conditions for the extraction ofnoil from hempseeds was investigated. The results show that ultrasonic extractionn(UE) requires a shorter operating time and results in less solvent consumptionnthan solvent extraction (SE). The optimal conditions for UE are asnfollows: power output: 200 W; exposure time: 25 min; acting on–off ratio:n20:20 (s/s); and solvent-to-solid ratio: 7:1 (v/w). The gas chromatography–nmass spectrometry analysis indicated that the composition of the hempseednoil that is extracted is not significantly (P u0002 0.05), if at all, affected by UE.nAdditionally, the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl scavenging activity during thenUE is 13.5% higher than that obtained under SE in this test. Hempseed oil thatnis extracted by UE has a higher ultraviolet-absorbing capacity than the oilnobtained by SE. These tests indicate that UE may be a new, acceptable andneven potentially superior commercial oil extraction process for preservingnthe naturally occurring content of bioactive components that are found withinnthe oil.
