EDUCATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: FROM THEORETICAL INTEREST TO SPECIFIC BEHAVIOURS

Environmental impacts of economic and social activities enjoy a rich literature, mainly focusing on the negative consequences and challenges emerged from the rapid pace of economic and technological development. Moreover, the growing concern of both population and public authorities regarding negative environmental impact brings also great expectations that government, civil society and education institutions address these challenges and find specific solutions. In this framework, we are investigating in this paper attitudes and behaviours concerning sustainability among young people preparing to get involved in business administration, i.e. post-graduate students in business administration at the public university in Oradea, Romania. We are presenting here the results of our survey-based research investigating issues such as: the interest to get involved in entrepreneurial and/or business careers, the interest to own/manage businesses in sustainability-related fields, effectiveness of knowledge, attitudes, behaviours and practices related to sustainability, etc. We further investigate demographic and social variables of the surveyed people in order to reveal potential factors explaining the different levels of effective actions and involvement in practicing sustainability in their lives and occupational activities.
