The long-running effort to privatise munitions and land systems company Israel Military Industries has cleared the final political hurdle with the decision by the Finance Committee of the Knesset to approve an ILS5.7 billion (USD950 million) package to facilitate the transfer of the company from state hands. The package includes ILS2.5 billion to establish a new entity to take over IMI's classified operations; ILS1.5 billion to cover the retirement of 1,17 0 of the company's 3,400 workers; and the remainder for forgiveness of IMI debt to the state.
