Faculty and administrators will find this book an excellent resource. The editors have compiled a text that provides a comprehensive look at the field of distance education. The book contains historical perspectives, a good grounding of theory and pedagogy interspersed with real life experiences, and a glimpse into future research directions. The index and organization provide an easy way to search and find relevant articles. Any researcher in distance education will find this a good companion. One of the editors, Michael Moore, sums the book up quite well in the preface when he states the following: "The book aims to provide a broad and exhaustive review of the research on such topics as the best way to practice distance education at the teacher level and the administrator level, the public policy implications of shifting a greater proportion of educational resources to this method, and the implications of the expansion of distance education for the theory of education and the practice of educational research" (p. x). Indeed, this book does deliver as promised.
