Smart sensors, also known as intelligent transducers, have been around for some decades now but a unified concept has been lacking in literature. These sensors differ from the widely used analog transducers in that the tedious manual calibration process is eliminated, and secondly in that they contain electronics that can be used to make decisions and offer self-diagnostic capabilities. To have four authors writing a coherent book can be a daunting task, yet this monograph by Kirianaki, Yurish, Shpak and Deynega is outstanding in its approach to provide a comprehensive and unique treatment of the subject. The book is quite mathematical in nature, but the mathematics do help. Both the industry and academia will benefit, and this book will surely remain as a reference for a couple of decades to come.
