On 24 May 2019, the National Energy Administration (NEA) held a meeting in Beijing on the developmental direction of China's oil and gas industry, with a view to vigorously promoting the work of oil and gas exploration/development and clearly demanding that oil enterprises complete the work requirements of the action plan for 2019-2025. According to Director Zhang Jianhua of NEA, oil companies should fulfill the primary responsibility of increasing reserves and production, together with the requirements of the action plan for 2019-2025. This is the first time that China has put forward a seven-year plan for oil and gas exploration/development.
