The following is a review of The TRIPS Agreement: Drafting History and Analysis, 4th ed. By Daniel Gervais. The book is published by Thomson Reuters, England, 2012. Daniel Gervais' guide to the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS Agreement) is in its 4th edition. It first came out in 1998. Arthur Dunkel, the Director-General of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) brought down the gavel on Uruguay Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations at the end of 1993 and in April of 1994 states met in Marrakesh to sign the final package of agreements. It was difficult to get information about the TRIPS Agreement in the first half of the 1990s. The Uruguay Round belonged to a world of trade negotiation that had not yet been made porous by the Internet, wikileaks and networked civil society groups.
