The WIPO Copyright Treaty (WCT) (1996)

As discussed above, the most important feature of the WCT is that it includes provisions necessary for the adaptation of the international copyright norms to the challenges and requirements of digital technology, particularly of global digital networks like the Internet. The participation in, and the use of, the Global Information Infrastructure based on such technology and such networks is an obvious interest of all countries. The WCT-along with the WPPT-establishes the legal conditions for this.
