Frequency-doubled Nd:YAG lasers have been frequency stabilized against the hyperfine structure components of /sup 127/I/sub 2/ by means of the sub-Doppler frequency modulation technique. A frequency stability of 3/spl times/10/sup -13//spl tau//sup -1/2/ has been obtained for integration times between 10/sup -3/ s>/spl tau/>10/sup 2/ s with an estimated reproducibility of about 1 kHz (2/spl times/10/sup -12/). The hyperfine spectroscopy of the rovibrational line P(54)32-0 has been performed and the iodine hyperfine constants have been calculated. The pressure shifts of the hyperfine components /spl alpha//sub 1/, /spl alpha//sub 2/, /spl alpha//sub 10/, and /spl alpha//sub 15/ have been measured.
