On his july visit to Kenya, U.S. presi-dent Barack Obama spoke of a nation at a political and economic crossroads. Kenya is at "a moment filled with peril but enormous promise," said Obama. The International Monetary Fund forecasts 6.5 percent growth for the year and 7.2 percent in 2016, driven by investments in infrastructure. But threats loom: Allegations of government corruptionand terrorist attacks by the Islamic fundamentalist group al-Shabab, like the one that killed 148 people at a Kenyan university in April, helped slow growth in East Africa's largest economy to 5.3 percent last year and continue to deter investors.
