This paper proposes a novel rotor resistance identification methodnfor an indirect rotor flux-orientated controlled induction machinendrive. The method is effectively integrated with the intermediatencurrent control loop of the system. A decoupled synchronous voltagencontrol scheme is used to achieve a fast, accurate current controlnresponse and indicates the relative thermal change of the rotornresistance. A model reference adaptive control scheme is then used tontrack the variation of the rotor resistance. Other issues, such as thennonideal characteristics of the power devices, stator resistancenvariation and comparison with two other parameter identificationnmethods, are included. This method is less complex and more effectiventhan others, and this is supported by theoretical analysis, and verifiednby simulation and experimental results
