The emission characteristics of an ultraviolet-visible pulsednmulti-ionic xenon laser were studied through time-resolved spectroscopynand the results were interpreted using a collisional-radiativentheoretical model. This analysis includes more than 20 laser linesnbelonging to several ionic species (Xe III-VIII). Depending on thenexperimental conditions, different temporal distributions of the lasernlines and their corresponding spontaneous emissions can be observed. Innparticular, laser emission presents temporal oscillations nearnthreshold. Pumping processes for the laser transitions have beennanalyzed by using this model. Relativistic Hartree-Fock calculations ofnlaser level lifetimes and radiative transition probabilities werenperformed. Experimental laser gain for several transitions were obtainednand compared with the theoretical values derived from the calculations
