Coast Guard Patrol Vessel. Iceland signed a shipbuilding contract on December 20, 2006, with ASMAR Shipyards of Chile for the design and build of a new Coast Guard patrol vessel. The vessel, designed by Rolls-Royce Norway, is tasked for missions that include fishery inspection, border protection, search and rescue, emergency towing, salvage operations, pollution control, and firefighting. The ship is 93 meters in length and weighs 1,600 tons. It was launched in April 2009 and commissioned in 2010. However, final delivery was delayed until 2011 because of damage to one of the engines from seawater ingress after a tidal wave hit the ship following an earthquake in southern Chile in February 2010. Rolls-Royce Norway provided the principal equipment.
