Norway: Section 2 - Market Overview

The Royal Norwegian Air Force's top priority is the replacement of its fleet of F-16 jet fighters. Norway will purchase 52 F-35s (40 have already been authorized), which began entering service in 2019 in correspondence with the gradual phaseout of the F-16s. The government announced on November 20, 2008, that the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) beat out the Saab JAS 39 Gripen in the competition to replace its F-16s. Regarding air transport, Norway purchased C-130J-30 aircraft to replace its retired C-13OHs. The first delivery of a new C-130J-30 occurred on November 25, 2008; a fourth platform was delivered on May 11, 2010.
