As the new year begins, this month's Ingredients section, "Ingredients for Baked Goods," is a very timely one for a number of reasons. For starters, January 23, 1998 is National Pie Day. Sponsored by the American Pie Council, the event includes a national pie competition open to commercial and retail pie-makers as well as consumers. Several creative suggestions were offered for promoting the event, but one that I find especially interesting is the holding of a pie-throwing contest. If any company is implementing this idea, please let me know as I haven't been involved in a good pie fight in a long time.
