Studies on the affinity chromatography purification of anti-patulin polyclonal antibodies by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and electrophoresis.

Patulin is a mycotoxin produced by fungal species that frequently grow on fruits and vegetables, and is of potential concern in relation to young children consuming apple juice. Thus, it is important to have methods such as immunoassays to screen a large number of samples. The objective of this study was to reinvestigate the production of monoclonal antibodies against patulin-hemiglutarate-bovine serum albumin, with a long immunisation time, to evaluate their specificity in a quantitative indirect competitive ELISA, and to test the effectiveness of affinity production of the immunoglobulin G. Patulin-hemiglutarate-ovalbumin gave complete displacement, while patulin displaced 30% of bound antibodies, indicating that a fraction of the antibodies are specific for free patulin.
