For Airbus, the E-Fan X hybrid project represents a natural progression of electric flight efforts dating to 2014. Airbus has always insisted its E-Fan programme was aimed at fielding a hybrid-electric regional aircraft - so converting a BAe 146 jet to hybrid-electric propulsion should at least demonstrate the technical feasibility of the concept.
