Financial Analysts Journal: Marrying the Academic and Practitioner Worlds

I am pleased but not surprised that the Financial Analysts Journal has thrived for 60 years. Over the many years I was associated with the Journal (under four editors!), I saw much success and certainly many changes. I became involved with the FAJ, the Financial Analysts Federation, and the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts (forerunners of CFA Institute) while I was working for Abe Kulp at Wellington Management Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from 1950 to 1966. My background was in financial analysis and economics, and Abe and I often discussed areas with which we thought a well-educated analyst—and later, CFA charterholder—should be familiar.
