Due to physical limitations, the motion system of a flight simulator is not able to reproduce motion cues as in a real aircraft, therefore washout algorithms are used to produce motion cues which are a trade-off between the sensation transmitted to the pilot and motion systems constraints. Washout algorithms includes classical and adaptive algorithms which minimize the motion error by using filters respectively with fixed and variable coefficients. A different perceptive is used in optimal cueing algorithms, with focus to provide to the pilot a motion sensation as close as possible to the reality, instead of focusing on the reproduction of actual motion. The paper "Optimal Motion-Cueing Algorithm Using Motion System Kinematics" by M. Aminzadeh, A. Mahmoodi, M. Sabzehparvar presents a washout filter based on the latter approach.The human sensation model [l]is employed to convert aircraft accelerations and angular rates into pilot's sensation, to be reproduced on the platform. The reliability of the sensation approach is confirmed also by the experience on the motorcycle simulator [2] of the University of Padova, through extensive subjective tests [3].
