摘要

Echoing Moore's law (which states that the number of transistors on an integrated circuit for minimum component cost doubles every 24 months), it is evident that the field of human-computer interaction (HCI) is developing at an exponential pace. It could be argued that, in its germinant phase, HCI research was more biased towards ameliorating 'expert' users in conventional interaction scenarios. However, those at the vanguard of contemporary HCI -and we could regard interaction design as being its 'coalface' - need to consider a more expansive remit as interactive technologies increasingly permeate work and leisure contexts. Within this collection of febrile essays, one can bear witness to the evolutionary struggle of the interaction design discipline as it strives to encompass more humanistic notions of the conventional 'user' amidst the more rigid vestiges of its academic progenitors - e.g. software engineering and cognitive science.
