More than half of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles, some 1.59 million tonnes, were collected last year, according to the latest figures from Petcore (PET containers recycling Europe) and EuPR (EU Plastics Recyclers). This result marks an increase of 9.4 per cent on the 2010 level. The 51 per cent rate was up from 48.3 per cent in 2010 and substantially higher than the results of the mid-2000s, the trade associations said earlier this month.
