Four member states still not applying renewables law

Four member states have still not transposed the EU's renewable energy directive (RED 2009/28/EC) some 18 months after the deadline for doing so. As a result, the European Commission last week sent reasoned opinions to Cyprus, Ireland, Malta and Slovenia."Increasing the share of renewable energy to 20 per cent in the EU energy consumption by 2020 relies on the commitment of member states to fully implement the requirements of EU legislation," the Commission said in a 21 June statement announcing the reasoned opinions.
