More ambitious computer energy efficiency standards needed

Ahead of a crucial vote on new rules for energy efficiency and environmental requirements for computers and servers, the Coolproducts Coalition has issued a statement calling on member states to "challenge the European Commission's weak proposals and push for more ambitious targets." National representatives meeting in Brussels on 28 February discussed the European ecodesign directive in a bid to set ambitious targets on energy and resource use and ensure manufacturers gradually improve the performance of their products, from the power consumption of the entire device to require the use of special components that can power themselves down to reduce energy use.
