Finland: PYR welcomes long awaited packaging decree

Finland's packaging recovery organisation, the Environmental Register of Packaging PYR Ltd, has applauded the final adoption of the long-awaited packaging decree this month - even though it will bring higher costs and tougher targets for its members. "We are happy that the new decree is approved and we know what is required from producers regarding consumer packaging collection," said Juha-Heikki Tanskanen, chief executive officer of PYR Ltd. "For trade and the industrial sector, the extended responsibility will bring increased costs and the recycling targets are stringent. We are currently negotiating with other stakeholders on how we can provide the consumers with an efficient waste collection system that serves them best."
