Queensland University of Technology structural engineering staff and students are investigating ways to make cold-formed steel more fire resistant with a view to developing new design rules.rnThe three-year project received a $330,000 grant from the Australian Research Council.rnThe leader of the research team, Professor Mahen Mahendran said the researchers will test different configurations of steel, plasterboard and insulation in a furnace. They will measure how the materials heat up, and how they then buckle and collapse.
