Odd-form component placement can turn into a speed bump in today's fast PCB assembly lines. Odd-form components require special attention when placing and soldering — a labor-intensive process that makes it difficult to meet increases in production demands. Odd-form assembly can be automated, but the challenge lies in applying a machine's capabilities to the task in such a way that components will be placed and soldered correctly and quickly. An automated odd-form assembly system also must be cost effective and flexible enough to handle changes in the production process.
