Buying a bottle of liquor in Sweden is a notoriously disagreeable experience, thanks to years of practice by Systembola-get, the state-owned monopoly retailer of alcoholic drinks. Now this forbidding institution is undergoing a personality change and trying to reinvent itself as customer-friendly. Out go the clinical glass cases in which drink is displayed; in comes self-service. Since July, most stores have started opening on Saturdays.
