FIGURE 1. (A) Presents a diagrammatic representation of the exogenous auditory orienting task. Headphones were used to present a 2000 Hz pure tone [the cue (C)], which either correctly (valid trials; Val) or incorrectly (invalid; Inv) predicted the location of a second 1000 Hz tone [the target (T)] on 50% of trials. The cue and target were separated with a stimulus onset asynchrony (SOA) of either 200, 400, 600, or 800 ms. Participants indicated the spatial location of the target by pressing a key with their right index (left target) or right middle (right target) finger. (B) Depicts average median reaction time (RT) for valid and invalid trials at each of the four different SOAs. Error bars represent standard error of the mean.
