Prospective Elt Teacher's Sense of Writing Self-Efficacy and its Effects on Writing Achievement

In the last few years, interest on teacher self-efficacy studies has been accelerated as one of the major determining factor in classroom instruction. However, little is known about how learners perceive their academic capabilities and how this effects their academic achievement. Thus, this study investigates participant's self-efficacy perceptions linked to their writing performance. First, a questionnaire is administered and statistical analysis displayed a significant difference (p= .000). Second, gender difference is tested and revealed also a significant difference (p= .015). Finally, learner's perceptions and their writing grades are analysed and a positive correlation is found (r=.652). In short, it is confirmed that self-efficacy raises learner's motivation and plays a key role in writing courses therefore especially writing teachers need to be aware of these strong perceptions.
