摘要

Antimicrobial prescribing has become very complicated. We teach our medical students and residents to choose an antibiotic based upon a number of critical variables including microbiologic spectrum, pharmacokinetics, incidence and types of adverse effects, and cost. Increasingly, and especially since the advent of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), the importance of potential drug–drug interactions has become a crucial consideration when deciding on the selection of an antimicrobial chemotherapy regimen.
