Sulfonamides are one of the drugs that have been in clinical use for over 70 years. They play an important role in medicinal chemistry: many antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antipsychotic, antihypertensive, hypoglycemic, and anticancer drugs contain the sulfonamide subunit.
