摘要

The current study analyses how learners of Japanese interpreted and completed tasks through collaborative interaction in two task-b ased C ALL classes at a secondary school in Australia. Sociocultural approaches of mediation and the zone of proximal development were employed as the analytica l tools to id entify pa tterns and roles of colla borative interaction during task interpreta tion and completion. The paper also critically analyses the suita bility of sociocultura l approac hes as a na lytica l tools for analysing the collaborative interaction whic h occurred during completion of an open -ended task. The paper concludes with implications for new a na lytica l tools and further research.
