Expected Desirability Function: Consideration of Both Location and Dispersion Effects in Desirability Function Approach

Anewtypeofdesirabilityfunctionforamultiresponseproblemisproposed.Theproposeddesirabilityfunction,calledanexpecteddesirabilityfunction,isdefinedastheaverageoftheconventionaldesirabilityvaluesbasedontheprobabilitydistributionofthepredictedresponsevariable.Themajoradvantageoftheproposedapproachovertheconventionaldesirabilityfunctionapproachisthatitconsidersthedispersioneffectsaswellasthelocationeffectsoftheresponses.Moreover,itisshownthattheproposedapproachresultsinahigherprocesscapabilitythantheconventionaldesirabilityapproach,especiallyintheasymmetricnominal-the-best-typeresponsecase.
