Fostering Health: Health Care for Children and Youth in Foster Care

摘要

Children and adolescents placed intothe foster care system have special healthcare needs. The physical and psychologicalconsequences of abuse and neglect, as wellas the trauma from being removed fromtheir homes lead to physical, emotionaland developmental problems. In addition,other risk factors associated withpoor physical and mental health suchas lack of medical care, poverty, homelessness,violence in the home, parentalsubstance abuse, parental mental illnessand premature birth, are often present andcompound the child’s health risk.
