SOME PROBLEMS IN LOW-TEMPERATURE PLASMA DESTRUCTION OF WASTE

The rapidly increasing contamination of the natural environment is caused by human industrial activity. That is why technologies connected with the utilization and destruction of hazardous waste are being developed now. In this paper a review of hazardous waste is presented. Problems with freons and their influence on atmosphere are taken into consideration. Some low-temperature plasma installations for waste destruction are described. Then, special laboratory stands, which were built and examined in the Institute of Heat Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology, are presented. A construction and an operation are discussed; including the results of destruction processes carried out during the experiments. Finally the above issues are summarised. The need for plasma technology development in environmental protection is also underlined.
