Gasification of waste streams is an environmentally effective approach to achieve the necessarydestruction of waste. In addition, it provides a synthesis gas for energy recovery which can besubsequently used for operation of an engine and generator (genset) or for fueling a boiler.This paper presents emission data taken during a series of tests on hazardous, electronic, andmedical waste gasification using a Plasma Enhanced Melter?. The synthesis gas wascombusted in either a ground level flare or in a genset. Destruction and removal efficiency(DRE) data are presented for the hazardous waste tests. Emission data include CO, Sox, Nox,VOCs, dioxin/furans, semivolatile metals, and mercury. The results are compared to the EPAMACT and European Union standards where appropriate. In most cases, the emissions from thePEM were lower than the MACT standards by one to three orders of magnitude. DRE resultsexceeded 99.9999% for all RCRA hazardous chemicals in the feed.
