Engendered Species - Ghosts of Women Past

Dr Patricia Fara, Senior Tutor of Clare College, Cambridge gave a talk, Ghosts of Women Past at the Royal Society. The title was based around a picture taken in the Cavendish laboratory circa 1900 (seen to the right). At the time, women were allowed to sit Tripos examinations although were not granted a degree upon completing the course. Women studying science at Cambridge had been allowed into the Cavendish for about a decade, although the female-only colleges Girton and Newnham also provided their own teaching laboratories.
