Biometrics have been used for quite some time now; indeed, the science of using fingerprints to associate perpetrators to a crime is over 100 years old. But new science has evolved, with iris, face and vein recognition amongst others. Biometrics have been mainly used for forensics - finding people involved after an event has occurred, or for access control, letting pre-selected people penetrate a perimeter while keeping unknowns out.
