摘要

Acute lung injury (ALI) and its more severe form, thernacute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in the pediatricrnpopulation, are devastating disorders that remain a challengernto clinicians. Pediatric pulmonologists, pediatric intensivistsrnare commonly confronted with these cases. The risk factorsrnand pathophysiology of ALI/ ARDS are similar in adults andrnchildren, having infection as the most common trigger [1].rnAlthough ALI occurs with less frequency in children than inrnadults, each year approximately between 2500 to 9000rnchildren in the United States will have ALI, and up to 2000rnwill die from it [2].
