Towards the optimal synchronization granularity for dynamic scheduling of pipelined computations on heterogeneous computing systems

This issue presents extended versions of eight papers selected from NOTERE'2010, which addressed different problems related to distributed systems. Security is addressed by the first and second papers: the paper of Lilia Sfaxi et al. and the paper of Mohamed Aymen Chalouf et al., which address the design, development, and deployment of distributed secure systems. The problem of broadcast, one of the most important applications in mobile wireless sensor networks, is addressed by the third paper: the paper of Nesrine Ouled Abdallah et al. In the fourth paper, Dennis Christmann et al. propose a flexible and energy-efficient solution for duty cycling, which is based on wireless MAC protocol MacZ. The problem of distributed real-time architecture and embedded systems is addressed by the fifth and sixth papers: the paper of Nadege Pontisso et al. and the paper of Daniel Knorreck et al. The last two papers address the problem of risk environment and critical systems: the paper of Ali Kanso et al. and the paper of Mariagrazia Fugini et al.
