METRO NEW YORK HAS PANEL DISCUSSION ON REPLICATION

When planning a facade restoration project, which materials would you consider using to replicate historic building fabric? Through a panel of experts, there was discussion as to which material may be the appropriate selection: terra cotta, precast concrete, or glass fiber-reinforced concrete (GFRC), along with the advantages and disadvantages of each. This meeting was held at the Metro New York Chapter Midtown Manhattan location at 101 Park Avenue, right across from Grand Central Station. Each panelist presented different methods and practices, answered audience questions, and discussed project-specific solutions. The panel was led by Tina Tapinekis of TMT Restoration Architect. The panelists for this presentation were Jason B. Hirschhorn, President, Corinthian Cast Stone; James G. Anderson, Sales & Marketing Manager, Gladding McBean; and Douglas Schickler, Principal, Essex Works, Ltd. At the end of the meeting, there was ample time for questions and answers and rebuttal among the panelists.
